Title:   Purchasing Manager - Core Fruit & Vegetables
Salary:  Commensurate with Experience
Reports to:  Vice President of Commodity Management
Location:  Rochester, NY

Position Summary:
To develop and manage global source plans for core line fruit and vegetables, which result in attainment of purchasing goals and objectives.  To take a leadership role in the coordination and management of Procurement projects:

  • Month end Purchase Price Variance reporting with accounting department
  • Inbound freight optimization with traffic department
  • Claims process with quality assurance department
  • New product development with marketing department
  • To provide backup for Purchasing Manager - Specialty Fruit & Vegetables

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and monitor supply markets
  • Develop comprehensive commodity strategic plans
  • Evaluate and select suppliers in collaboration with other functional departments
  • Lead/participate in supplier improvement and certification programs
  • Develop, negotiate, and monitor annual supply contracts
  • Manage commodity costs
  • Issue blanket orders as appropriate
  • Work with various departments to promote value analysis, standardization, and development of alternate suppliers
  • Assist receiving and planning with resolution of critical supplier delivery issues
  • Create/optimize value from suppliers centered to total cost of acquisition
  • Monitor long-term material demand and trends
  • Analyze/understand supply chain/supplier cost structure for assigned commodities
  • Some travel required

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent coursework and work experience in related field
  • Minimum 5 years of purchasing/sourcing experience in the Agriculture area
  • Evidence of success in meeting goals and objectives
  • Thorough understanding of strategic purchasing/sourcing methods, MRP, purchasing, materials management, inventory control, production systems, financial information requirements, supply chain analysis, contract law and relevant legal regulations associated with purchasing commodities, appreciation of Procurement's impact on corporate profit
